Rail Infrastructure
ELASTOMERS AND COMPOSITES FOR REDUCING VIBRATION AND NOISE IN RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE
BORFLEX® designs and manufactures elastomer and composite components for railway infrastructure: level crossings, tracks, tunnels, trams and underground railways. The group is involved in new design, maintenance and upgrading to current standards, with IRIS/ISO 22163:2023 certification renewed in 2025 and a track record of projects including the Gotthard Tunnel, the Grand Paris project and the Caracas metro.

Trams and urban metro systems: Rubber shoes and soles for underground tracks
Our rubber pads and bushings, fitted to the tracks with special profiles, provide maximum vibration damping for tram and underground networks in densely populated urban areas.
- Simulations and in-house laboratory tests to optimise vibration and noise
- Static and dynamic stiffness suitable for underground railways and trams
- Metro networks fitted out in Brazil, Egypt, Greece, France and Italy
International achievements
- Trans-Alpine lines: Zimmerberg, Lötschberg, Gotthard
- Tunnels under the English Channel, Hong Kong, Taipei, Brazil, the United States
- Swiss tunnels at Bötzberg, Grauholz and Mattstetten-Rothrist
- Zurich, Kloten and Lausanne stations
Railway level crossings
Three level crossing systems, each meeting a different requirement in terms of load-bearing capacity, electrical insulation or fire resistance.
The PRV grating, our yellow composite grating from the SWISSCROSS® range, is the most commonly used solution for pedestrian and service walkways.
Resin railway crossing
Resin-based level crossing slabs for service and pedestrian crossings. Non-slip and resistant to corrosive environments.

Rubber-concrete level crossing: RUBE®
The new Swisscross RUBE® model combines the advantages of a concrete level crossing with those of a rubber level crossing.

Rubber level crossing (HD)
Swisscross® HD: the rubber level crossing for ‘heavy-duty’ tracks.
Good load-bearing capacity, vibration damping and noise reduction.

Reducing vibrations and noise on the track
Rail pads, base plates, sleeper pads and rubber composite cushions absorb the vibrations caused by passing trains and reduce the perceived noise level in residential areas.
- A measured reduction of 4 to 5 decibels with the special acoustic protection fitted to the rail
- A special version is available to prevent the spread of stray currents
- Rail-mounted base and elastic base under the block, compatible with two-piece sleepers
- Compact or expanded materials, dimensions adaptable to the project

Certifications
IRIS: a globally recognised quality standard
IRIS Rev. 04 / ISO 22163:2023
In 2025, BORFLEX® REX renewed its IRIS Rev. 04 / ISO 22163:2023 certification, the benchmark quality standard for the global railway supply chain. This certification attests to the company’s mastery of the design, manufacturing and quality control processes required by clients in the railway sector, complementing the group’s ISO 9001 certification.

DNV·GL quality management system certification:
Compliance of an organisation’s quality management system with the international standards ISO 9001 and ISO TS 22163 (specific to the railway sector).

‘CO₂ & kWh reduced’ label:
This label certifies a reduction in CO₂ emissions and energy consumption, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
