the 10 questions the most common ones

Une question sur nos savoir-faire ou vos projets ?
Pour vous accompagner dans le développement de vos pièces élastomères et composites, nous avons rassemblé les réponses aux questions les plus fréquemment posées par nos partenaires industriels.

01. Can you produce a part from an existing drawing or based on a sample, or do you have to start from scratch?

We can draw up your plans or work directly from your technical drawings. If you do not have any plans (whether it is an existing part to be replicated, a part that has worn out, or a project still being finalised), our design team can handle the design and drafting for you, right through to a 3D prototype before production begins.

02. Do you produce in small batches, or even as single items?

Yes, that is our core business. We produce single-unit runs, small and medium-sized runs, as well as larger volumes – a key factor for spare parts, prototypes or specific low-volume components, which are common in the rail, nuclear and defence sectors.

03. Do you use standard blends, or can you formulate a bespoke material for my application?

We formulate our own elastomer compounds in our in-house R&D laboratories. This means that the material can be precisely tailored to your specific requirements (temperature, chemical exposure, hardness, fire resistance or UV resistance) rather than relying on a rough catalogue specification.

04. Which elastomer processing methods are you familiar with?

We cover the entire production chain: extrusion, moulding, filling, fabric coating and cutting. This comprehensive expertise enables us to remain your single point of contact from start to finish, without the need to subcontract work to multiple suppliers.

05. Are your composite parts manufactured in France?

Yes. Our composite production takes place in France, about an hour’s drive from Paris. We carry out pultrusion in-house – a process that is not widely practised in France – as well as composite moulding, cutting, machining and finishing.

06. Can you support projects in the nuclear, defence or rail sectors, given their specific requirements?

We regularly operate in these demanding markets, where components must meet specific mechanical, chemical or thermal performance requirements, and where the traceability of materials and processes is crucial. We consult with you at an early stage regarding your specifications to validate the appropriate formulation and process before production commences.

07. What happens if my part is no longer available or if my current supplier stops manufacturing it?

We design bespoke solutions, including those designed to replicate or redesign a part that has become obsolete from a third-party supplier. This capability is particularly useful for manufacturers who need to keep older equipment (rolling stock, infrastructure) in service without interrupting operations.

08. How do you tailor your elastomer compounds to my application?

We formulate each compound to order, whether black or coloured, to meet your specific requirements: sealing performance, temperature resistance, wear resistance, or specific operating conditions (nuclear, chemical, etc.). This requires genuine expertise: the material is designed specifically for your application.

09. What is 3D prototyping used for, and when do you use it?

3D prototyping enables us to quickly validate the geometry and feasibility of a part before committing to tooling, which significantly reduces design validation times compared with a traditional prototyping cycle. In some cases, depending on the material, it also enables us to produce a few functional units directly, without having to wait for mass production to begin. This is not a routine step: we use it when the complexity of the part or the importance of the project warrants it, in consultation with you.

10. What guarantees do you have regarding quality and consistency from one batch to the next?

BORFLEX® draws on over 65 years of continuous industrial expertise, with production based in France – a key asset for security of supply, long-term service continuity and technical responsiveness, criteria that are particularly important in the rail, the nuclear and defence sectors, where the availability of parts must be guaranteed over several decades.
