BORFLEX COMPOSITES, a company of the BORFLEX Group, has been a recognized French specialist in the manufacture of technical fiberglass components for over 65 years. We are launching our BORGLASS® 2026 catalog, the first fully standardized catalog of pultruded fiberglass composite profiles, organized by performance range.

This catalog represents a major breakthrough in the industrial composites market. Until now, access to pultruded profiles had been primarily limited to custom designs, which involved significant lead times and tooling investments. With BORGLASS®, the BORFLEX Group offers a range of standard profiles available—either in stock or upon request—in a variety of shapes, dimensions, and resin types that are unprecedented in the French market.

What is fiberglass pultrusion?

Pultrusion is a continuous manufacturing process that produces composite profiles with a constant cross-section and mechanical properties that are perfectly uniform along their entire length. This technique is what gives BORGLASS® profiles their superior mechanical properties, comparable to the effect of reinforced concrete in terms of the combination of materials.

The process consists of several steps managed by BORFLEX:

  • Selection of raw materials: glass fibers and woven mats selected by BORFLEX for their quality and consistency
  • Resin Formulation: BORFLEX formulates and blends its resins in-house, ensuring a composition that is perfectly suited to each performance category (standard, food-grade, electrical, fire-resistant, chemical-resistant).
  • Mesh and weaving: The fibers are arranged according to a precise structure, which determines the directional properties of the profile
  • Drawing and impregnation: The fibers pass through a resin bath under controlled tension, ensuring complete and uniform impregnation
  • Passage through the heated die: The resin cures under heat and pressure in the die, which gives the profile its final shape
  • Cutting and quality control: Each profile is cut to standard lengths (usually 4 or 6 meters) and undergoes rigorous quality control.

This process ensures that the mechanical properties are perfectly consistent from one profile to the next, a critical factor for industries with strict specifications.

One of the most immediately noticeable advantages of BORGLASS® profiles is their light weight. With a density of 1.80 to 1.90 g/cm³, pultruded composite profiles are nearly four times lighter than steel. This weight difference has tangible, quantifiable benefits throughout the product’s life cycle:

Zero corrosion — maintenance-free durability

Unlike steel and aluminum, BORGLASS® pultruded composite profiles are inherently corrosion-resistant. There is no oxidation process in a fiberglass/thermoset resin material. This fundamental property eliminates costs associated with:

Resistance to harsh environments: UV, chemicals, extreme temperatures

BORGLASS® profiles are naturally resistant to UV radiation, weathering, abrasion, common chemicals, and operating temperatures ranging from -40°C to +80°C (and beyond, depending on the resin grade). They are inherently rot-proof and do not swell when exposed to moisture.

Electrical and Thermal Insulation

Unlike metals, BORGLASS® composite profiles are electrically insulating (surface resistivity:10¹² ohms) and have very low thermal conductivity (0.3 W/m·K). These properties make them particularly well-suited for electrical applications (ATEX environments, high-voltage/low-voltage switchgear) and for thermal break applications in construction.
